What's it like working for Aldi? That's what we asked a few employees...

LGV Driver

Colin Tedford has been an LGV Driver with Aldi for the last 4 years. Colin and his wife Sarah have 3 daughters and a granddaughter who take up most of their spare time (when he's not playing golf or watching football).

A typical working day starts between 4am and 8am, loading the day's first deliveries of fresh fruit and veg on to the wagon and heading off to between one and three stores.

Most days there is also second deliveries of 'ambient goods' to deliver. After each delivery is made at a store, the wagon also collects empty pallets to return to the warehouse.

“Obviously, you're not manhandling every box or pallet, the truck's got an electronic loading facility. But you do have to have a bit about you, to be able to cope with the physical demands... you know when you've finished a full day! And you've got to be able to keep your cool when there are unforeseen circumstances, like tyre punctures. This job certainly does keep me on my toes."

Sometimes at the end of a busy day, he loves to socialise with his work mates "I go out with guys from work quite a lot, we drive on our own, but we're still one big team. Also, because we start early, I'm often finished in time to pick little Sophie up from nursery and play the doting grandad and take the missus to her aqua aerobics... so I'm around when they need me too."
