Case Study

Store Assistant

Laura Hayes has just come back to work from maternity leave (her second child) and works as a store assistant for 30 hours a week. "I have young children so it works well for me."

On top of that, the hours are varied so sometimes she can do her hours in 3 days and the rest of the week is her own – well the family's!

A typical day for Laura involves many different roles, including making sure the shelves are stocked. "Sometimes the deliveries are late due to traffic which means everyone has to work doubly fast but we pull together to get the job done." Regular breaks are a welcome rest!

"Like any job things go wrong, but we just laugh it off. We're like that, friendly but hard working."

The most enjoyable part of Laura's job is interacting with the customers, and working on the busy check out allows this. "Some of them are so friendly they wished me luck and even gave me gifts when I had my baby."
